I took a few pics with my phone on my way to work this morning. Everything was so pretty and calm....what a difference a day makes!

weekend recap
I drove to my mom's house after school on Friday. We had plans to work on her Christmas decorations and do some baking over the weekend.
Saturday morning we went to Mitchell to do some shopping. We went to a local store that had over 50 Christmas trees decorated. It was awesome...Christmas Heaven!! I took a bunch of pictures. I was trying to take them quickly and not look like an idiot so some of them are a little blurry. I loved that 12 foot (I'm guessing) tree in the first picture!
All that and I walked out of the store with one little ornament.
It started snowing again (it had snowed Friday afternoon too) on our drive back to my mom's house. The snow got heavier the closer we got to my mom's. I decided to head back to Brookings when we heard that blizzard warnings were being issued for Sunday. I took me awhile to get back since I had to drive about 45 mph for most of the 100 mile drive but the snow was really pretty.
We woke up this morning to the blizzard so we stuck around home all day. Well, I did anyway. David decided he needed to walk two blocks to the grocery store since our road was blown in and didn't think he should try to drive there.
Even though the snow ruined my plans with my mom, I was still so happy to have a real snow fall!
We've made good use of the snowy day...we watched the Vikings game and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and I baked some cut out cookies using my grandma's recipe and cookie cutters.
I got the call a few hours ago that we'll be starting school two hours late tomorrow! Woo hoo!
Have a great week!

weekend recap
Dave and I attempted to do some Christmas shopping Saturday but didn't get much done. We had some ideas but nothing really panned out.
We drove around for awhile Saturday night looking at Christmas lights. This house had it's lights synced up with Christmas music, which was pretty cool.
I found out that it's really hard to take a decent picture of Christmas lights from a car without looking like a total creeper.
I went on a Christmas tour of homes with my sister-in-law on Sunday. There were some really pretty homes but I didn't get many pictures because we weren't sure if they were allowed. I did sneak a quick picture of this little SDSU themed tree that I thought was really cute.
I also got one of our niece. Sarah is a member of the high school group that hosted the tour.
And in other news, I've officially started my countdown 'til Christmas break. 12 1/2 days to go!

stuff i loved this week
- This story.... about the police officer that bought shoes and socks for a homeless man.
- Christmas music.... a local radio station plays Christmas music 24/7 starting the day after Thanksgiving. Love it!
- 4 pm Friday afternoon....it was a long week and I was so glad to be finished with the work week.
- this video....I had tears from laughter while watching this. Not sure if I just needed a good laugh after this long week or if it really was that funny but I enjoyed it.
Have a great weekend!

weekend recap
Well, more of a quick recap from Wednesday-Sunday...
I pulled out our Christmas decorations out on Wednesday since we had the day off. I will do a post later of everything but here's a little peak at our tree.
We spent Thanksgiving in Sioux Falls celebrating with my Smith family.
The only Black Friday shopping I did this year was a quick run out to Walmart around 7:30 am to see what was left. I left with a mini crockpot that I'd been wanting but everything else was gone. We had Tony, Jackie, Sarah, and Conor over for another Thanksgiving dinner later that day.
We headed back to Sioux Falls on Saturday to attend my Grandma Smith's 100th birthday celebration. I plan to do a full post on this once I get some pictures. I forgot my camera at home so all I have are a couple phone pics.
We hung out around home on Sunday and relaxed.

grandma
My Grandma Hoxsie passed away early this morning. My emotions are so conflicted right now. I am so incredibly sad that she is gone. But, I am so happy that she has been reunited with my grandpa and other family members.
I adored my grandma. She was funny, feisty, and you really never knew what might come out of her mouth. During one visit with her not too long after Dave and I were married, she told me that even though we weren't ready to get pregnant, we should still "practice" a lot. Not something you really expect to hear from your grandma, yet not totally unexpected from mine.
I get my love of Christmas from my grandma. She hosted our family Christmases every year. She baked tons of cookies, pies, and other treats and decorated every square inch of her house. I have so many wonderful memories of Christmas at her house.
A couple of traits I didn't inherit from her are her gift for gab and her toughness. I'm usually pretty quiet while she could talk to anyone, anywhere. She was a strong lady and often lovingly told me to "tough it out" when I was upset about something.
I feel like I could type forever and still not be able to truly convey how wonderful she was and how much I loved her.
I love you grandma. Thanks for all the happy memories.

weekend recap
Saturday was SDSU's homecoming, known as Hobo Day. My parents came up for part of the day and joined us at the parade. It was a little chilly for the parade with the temperature in the mid 20s.
We got a good view of our nephew this year in the high school band.
We hung out around home the rest of the day. We watched The Five Year Engagement Saturday night. I thought it was pretty lame and Dave thought it was ok.
I spent a good chunk of Sunday painting a Christmas sign for myself.
I distressed this one.
I painted one for my mom last weekend.
Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to seal them since it's too cold to do it outside with the spray I usually use.
Hope ya all have a great week!

snow
We had a little winter preview this morning. I snapped a couple pics quick with my phone as I left for work. Not great pictures but I like to document the first snowfall. I'm a weather nerd. :o)

weekend recap
Dave and I headed for Mitchell Saturday morning to attend my godson's 8th birthday party.
We went to my mom's house that afternoon. My brother was an usher in his friend's wedding so we didn't get to see much of him. Just a quick hi and a picture and that was it.
We spent the rest of the Saturday and part of Sunday hanging out at my mom's house. It was a relaxing weekend!
Hope you're having a great week!

weekend recap - bullet style
- Dave and I went out for supper Friday night to celebrate his birthday.
- Dave surprised me with some flowers Saturday morning.
- We invited Tony, Jackie, and Sarah over Saturday night to share Dave's birthday dessert. I made this peach dessert.
- Sunday evening we went out to supper with Tony, Jackie, Sarah, and Conor.
I've had a heavy heart since I read this blog post yesterday telling about the passing of Julee's husband, Matt. Even though I don't know her or her family personally, I feel like I know them from reading her blog over the past few years. Such a sad reminder that life can change in an instant.

So as I mentioned, I put my fall decor away over the weekend. I took a few pictures to share before taking it down.
I'll post my Halloween decor later...hopefully I'll get it done before Halloween is over!
