Shopping!

I went downtown yesterday to do some browsing at the antique shops. Dave had told me I could get myself a birthday gift if I found anything I liked so I wasn't going to to turn that down! I got this scale and a couple little boxes to put on top.A couple books to set my little lamp on...and my favorite purchase..
And maybe some day I'll learn how to take decent pictures so you don't have look keep looking at pictures like these :o)

My Husband Rocks!

I woke up Wednesday morning and walked into the bathroom and found my first surprise - a poem written on the mirror:
Once I was finished getting myself ready for school, I went to the kitchen to pack my lunch and walked into this:
He knows how to make me smile. :o)

Score!

Hey there! Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend! I did some shopping, some painting, and spent time with family.

I hit a rummage sale after work on Friday and found a couple good deals.

I got this big chalkboard for $2! I'm planning on painting the wood and then hanging it in our kitchen.I also picked up this Homemakers Idea Company (Signature HomeStyles) shelf for $3.

It has hangers on the bottom too so it can be hung this way as well:
I measured out the hangers and put my nails in the wall. I couldn't decide which way I wanted to hang it so I thought I'd hang it both ways on the wall then decide which I liked better. Good idea until I realized the bottom hangers are not the same width apart as the top. Who's great idea was that? Eh, I like it anyway.

Hope you've all had a great start to your week!

LeMoNaDe

Nicol at Classy and Sophisticated awarded me with the Lemonade Award today.

Here are the rule for this award:

1.Put the logo on your blog or post
2. Nominate at least 10 blogs that show an attitude of gratitude
3. Link to your nominees within your post
4. Comment on their blogs to let them know they've received this award
5. Share the love and link to this post and the person who nominated you for the award
6. Tell us how you've come to have an attitude of gratitude

The blogs I am nominating are: Boyd's Crazy Mama, Heaven's Gift, It's Always Something Around Here, Live Today, Cherish Yesterday, Dream Tomorrow, My First Year as a Wallace, The Happy Homebody, Unmatched Socks.

Ok, and the hard part. How have I come to have an attitude of gratitude? I struggle with this often, sometimes daily. Sometimes I sink into thoughts of "why not me" or "why me". I see people who have houses and here we are renting a small apartment. I get discouraged because we are a looong way from being homeowners. Sometimes I (we) have setbacks and I wonder "why me (us)"? Sometimes I just wish we had more money to pay off our debts (who doesn't??).

Sometimes it takes longer than others but I come to realize that I am grateful for what I do have. I am thankful that we have a place to call home. I am thankful that we have family to share and make memories with. I am thankful for our health. We are blessed in many ways. And I remind myself - If I can't be happy with what I have now, will I really be happy if I have more?

Thank you so much Nicol for passing this award on to me!

A Little Spray Paint Never Hurt Anyone

A few weekends ago I picked up this small platter at a church rummage sale. It was marked 10 cents but we arrived after 12 pm when everything was marked half price. I'd been looking for a plate to give a spray paint treatment to and for 5 cents, I thought this would be a good piece to try. It sat around for a few weeks while I was in my slump. I finally decided to give it a little attention last night. So I spray painted it as I planted flowers. Result:Little pieces of dirt on the plate. You can't really tell they are there unless you look closely so I left it as is. Tonight I looked through my paper/crafting supplies for something to embellish the plate. I found some rub-ons I picked up at Michaels for $1 awhile back. Final result:Just a little more quick, cheap wall art :o)

Getting Back Into the Swing of Things

I went to a few rummage sales yesterday but didn't find anything to buy. I finally finished a small project I started about a month ago though. I decided I was tired of the deep reds and blacks in our kitchen awhile ago and wanted to brighten it up a bit for spring. I had a few square black pictures frames lying around so I decided to paint them a green apple color. I wasn't sure what I wanted to put in the frames so I went for some cheap art. I found a fruit transfer set for embroidery at the dollar store and bought some plain white fabric. The result:Not too bad for a $5 project and I won't feel bad when I get tired of them and decided to change them out.

I tried to spray paint a couple things yesterday and then again today but it's just too windy and not warm enough yet. I'll show when I get it done though :o)

Hope everyone had a restful weekend!

A Post

I've kind of been avoiding my blog lately. Partly because I don't have much to say and partly because I just don't feel like saying anything. I haven't really been looking at other blogs lately either. Not sure why I am in such a funk. Hoping to be over it soon.

Okay with that said, I've really sucked at doing projects lately too. This is the only thing I've done for quite some time and it's really not even blog worthy but thought I'd share anyway. I picked up this little welcome sign thingy at the Dollar Tree last weekend. Didn't really care for the colors but figured I could paint it. So I did. I glittered it too and changed out the chains for some ribbon.
Not a huge improvement but it's a little cuter.

I went to the W Mart tonight to buy a few flowers. I've been really excited to get some flowers out in my planters. I thought we should be out of the overnight frost danger so I went ahead and bought a few tonight.I came home and checked the weather forecast and saw that frost is possible the next 3 nights. #*$@ !! Maybe I should have checked it before I went to buy flowers.

I'm off to rummage sales at 7 tomorrow morning, ok maybe 8. But I'll be out there. Keeping my fingers crossed that I find some good deals and hopefully a project or two!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!

Quick Update

Our computer has been down for almost 2 weeks, yuck! It's great to be back but now I have a ton of emails and almost 500 unread posts in my Google Reader to go through.

I went to the doctor yesterday and found out I have strep throat. Of course they tested me for the flu while I was there too. Has anyone else had a flu test? I am seriously NEVER going to do that again. Well, not like the doctor will give me a choice on that, but still. It felt like they were touching my brain with the little sucker tube thing they shoved up my nose. YUCK!

I'll be around to see ya all soon.
