More excitement

Well, I ended up coming back to my mom's earlier than I had planned. I got a call from my brother about 10 this morning saying that he had found my grandma lying on her floor. He was pretty shaken up because when he first found her it looked like she had passed away. She was taken to the hospital and found out that she had broken her ankle. She also had burns on her skin because she had fallen sometime yesterday and drug herself over in front of her propane heater to keep warm, only she laid too close to it. She's also very badly bruised. A lot of things were tipped over in her house, so I'm guessing that she was trying to stand up but kept falling back down.

Anyway, I've had enough "excitement" for one week.

Quiet around here......

This will probably be my only post for the week. My mom had a hysterectomy today so we were at the hospital with her. Her surgery went well, I think she's in more pain than she thought she would be though. I felt like a really bad daughter when I left the hospital but I have to work tomorrow. I'll be going home again on Thursday to help her out for a few days.

Hope ya all have a good week.

Yikes!!

These pictures are a bit embarrassing, ok a lot embarrassing. Welcome to our office/guest room/I'll just put in there until I figure out what to do with it room. It seriously isn't normally this disgusting but for some reason it's gotten really bad in the past month or so.

Anyway, this is where David and I will be spending our weekend. We're doing a major overhaul (well as major as you can get in a rental) and I can't wait to show you the results! Once finished it'll no longer be a guest room because we are taking the bed out to make room for something really exciting. I'll show you what I'm so excited about once it's finished, hopefully only a month or so from now. So for now check out our mess in all it's glory and be grateful this room isn't in your house.
.
PS - Happen to notice the wine rack in picture 2? It's suppose to be on top of our fridge but it got moved when I decorated for Christmas and I haven't moved it back yet. Seriously...talk about lazy.
.
ETA - No baby on the way if that's what you're thinking ;o)

Weekend Recap

Made some of these and decided that I really "need" a sewing machine.
Looked around here a lot.

Caught up on my blog reading.

Got some of this ready to send out.

Read some of these.
Watched these.

Went baby shopping for my cousin's baby.

David and I went out for supper Friday night. We visited my brother-in-law and family later in the evening.
That was pretty much my weekend. I did a lot of nothing, um ....relaxing, this weekend and I still have one more day to relax before we head back to school.

Hope you had a relaxing weekend too!

A Little of This, A Little of That

Brrr! I can't wait for spring to arrive. I've got a serious case of the winter blahs. I'm tired of getting up early to start the car and being stuck inside all the time!! At least we get a two hour late start tomorrow due to the low, low temp.

Rambling Girl posted about this swap on her blog yesterday and I decided to join in. I really enjoyed participating in my last swap, and who doesn't love kitchen items?!? Ok, well I do anyway. :o)

In family related news..............my nephew was taken to the hospital with a health scare yesterday. He's now back at home resting. I also learned that my cousin's baby was moved to a bigger hospital yesterday. He was born this past Saturday (the 10th) and isn't doing well. Please keep them all in your thoughts if you would.

Sign How-To

I've had a few questions in my comments and a couple emails asking me questions about the sign I painted. I thought I'd just type up a quick post in case anyone else runs across my last post and wants more information.

The first thing I did was sand and paint my board. I then went into Word to type up my letters. I used the font Bookman Old Style for the big letters, and Liorah BT for Est. 2008. After I printed my letters out, I cut and taped the last name together. I then colored the back of the paper with chalk. Next I tried to center the name as best I could without actually measuring and taped it onto the board. Once taped, I traced the outline of each letter with a regular pen. I took off the paper, checked my lines, and started painting.

Once the paint was dry, I did the same process with Est. and 2008. These letters were much smaller so I had to cut about half of the bristles off one of my small paint brushes to make it work.
And that is how I made my sign. I hope this was semi-understandable.

Weekend Recap

David had to work this weekend so I just hung out around the apartment. I decided I needed a project last night so I dug this wooden sign out of the closet.
I sanded it down a bit then painted it black. While I was waiting for the paint to dry, I typed up my letters in Word and printed them out on a plain piece of paper. I then chalked the back of the paper and taped it onto the board and traced the outline of each letter. I forgot to take a picture before I started painting but here's an in process pic:
End result:

It was a lot more time consuming than I expected it to be, but it kept me busy.
-----
We head back to school tomorrow. It's going to be tough getting back into a routine again, especially since I slept in every day of break!

Hope everyone had a great weekend :o)

My Husband Rocks

To try to make up for my My Husband Rocks absences over the past couple weeks, I'll share a couple reasons with you this time around.

The first is that he has been our car mechanic A LOT lately. We've have a quite a few issues with our "good" car the last couple months and David has been the one to either fix them or take the car in. He has worked very hard out in the cold weather to fix some things and spent quite a bit of his time doing it. I really appreciate the time he has spent working on it and the fact that it has saved us money in the process.

The other reason is that he is happy to spend time at home with me. I am a pretty big homebody and love that he enjoys spending time here with me. He had a day off this week and we just spent the day here watching a House marathon and eating homemade ice cream.

Happy New Year!

Happy 2009! Hope you all are recovering well from a wild (or not so wild) New Year's Eve celebration. :o)
If you noticed, I have a new little 101 button to the right. If you click on it it will take you to my new blog. I've made a 101 Things to do in 1001 Days list and decided it'd be easiest to stay motivated and keep it updated if it was on a blog. Head on over and check it out if you'd like. Maybe you'll even start one of your own :o)
