Weekend Recap

My weekend started very early on Friday morning. I was in Walmart at 4:40 am trying to figure out where everything was located that I wanted to grab when the sale started at 5 am. I got some great deals! I got this comforter set for $35 and 500 thread count sheet set for $20.
I've been looking for a new comforter set for awhile now so I was really excited to get this one. It even came with 3 decorative pillows. I have a feeling they will lay on the floor more than they will on the bed. I got lots of other great deals too but some of them are Christmas gifts so I can't tell ya what I got. :o)

I got home from Walmart and took a 45 minute nap, then got back up to meet my mom for some more shopping in Sioux Falls. I got some pretty good bargains there too but most of them were for myself.

Yesterday I wrapped gifts so now our tree doesn't look so naked. I didn't do much otherwise. Today I baked some treats to take with me to school tomorrow. These are one of my new favorites. I made them for the first time last year so they are new to me anyway. Here are the directions if you're interested.

Peanut Butter Cookie Cups Refrigerated peanut butter cookie dough
Peanut butter cup minis
Cooking spray
Mini muffin pans

Grease mini muffin pan with cooking spray. Roll peanut butter cookie dough into one inch balls and drop into mini muffin pan.
Bake at 350 for 11-13 minutes. Insert mini peanut butter cups immediately after removing from oven. Let cool. Run knife along edges of each cookie to remove from pan.
So easy and so good! I made about 55 cookie cups with the 2 packages of dough.

Hope everyone has a great week!

My Husband Rocks

I wanted to start an "I'm Thankful For..." album this year so earlier this week I printed out a few "Thanksgiving-y" shapes for us to write our thoughts on. Last night we sat down together and wrote 4 things each that we are thankful for. Even without looking at the handwriting, it is so obvious who wrote each thought. As I've mentioned, I really dislike any type of creative writing (which you can probably tell from reading this blog). Dave's are beautifully written and mine, well mine sound as if a 4th grader wrote them. Proof:
Dave: I am thankful that the first sight I see every morning is the most beautiful blue eyes and warmest smile in the world. I am greeted with love and beauty every day.

Mine: For my job, as many people have lost theirs.

Dave: I am thankful to be surrounded by supportive people who no matter what I've done, refuse to give up on me.

Mine: For my family and friends.

David: I am thankful for the fact that my life is so enriched with gifts, miracles, and love, that I can honestly thank God for every day.

Mine: For my loving, understanding, patient, supportive, and talented husband.

David: I am thankful that I am married to the woman I dreamt about my whole life.

Mine: For having a fulfilling and creative outlet that not only allows me to express myself, but makes it possible to connect with other creative and resourceful people.

Ok, I gotta say that last one is pretty good - too bad I didn't write it. I sat in my chair and stared at the wall trying to figure out how to put my thoughts into words. So I told my husband what I was thinking, he wrote it down for me, and I copied it.

My husband rocks because he has a way with words and because he took this little project seriously and wrote things that our kids will be able to read some day (he can be a little.....let's say silly, sometimes). ;o)

Glitter Glitter Everywhere

It's official. I'm addicted to the Martha Stewart line of glitter. It's so much sparklier than regular glitter, and because of my new addiction I've been looking for things to glitter. I found these at Michael's in the $1 bin while shopping this past weekend.

They were fine the way they were, but they look SO much better all glittered up.

I found these little trees at Goodwill awhile back for 50 cents a piece. They were cute but a little woodsy looking for my taste.

Here they are after I mod podged some scrapbook paper on, GLITTERED the sides, and tied on some brown ribbon.

I kinda like 'em! All ready to be set out with the rest of my Christmas decorations. I'm putting up my Christmas decor tomorrow after work. Can't wait!!

My husband and I will be staying in town for Thanksgiving. We're going to eat at a local restaurant and then head to Twilight (finally!) We'll probably spend the rest of the day watching movies. I'll be out shopping with my mom on Friday, though we will not be standing in lines at 4 am. We are going to start a little later this year, probably 10 or so.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! Hope you have loved ones to spend the day with, lots of yummy food to eat, and time to rest up for the shopping frenzy on Friday :o)

Weekend Recap

David and I went Christmas shopping in Sioux Falls yesterday. We didn't get it all done, but thankfully we got quite a bit finished. The stores were sooo busy, annoyingly busy at some places (Old Navy and JC Penny were the worst). We went to Hobby Lobby too but it wasn't a good experience. The store was so crowded and it was almost impossible to take the time to look at anything. We were in and out in about 20 minutes, I think that's a new record! I usually spend closer to an hour in there. Anyway, I bought a few things to make a Christmas gift and some scrapbook paper for a little project.
Michaels really came through for me yesterday though! I usually don't find much in there because the store is pretty small but I got all of this yesterday for $11.
All of the Christmas picks were 50% off. Some of these were only 29 cents!
We hung out at home last night and played Scrabble and watched a movie - sounds like we're in our 80s!! We don't have much planned for today either. I'm going to work on a project or two and David has to go in to work later today.
Hope you all had a great weekend!

Award

I received this award from Frizzy last night. Thanks Frizzy!!
I've had a really hard time thinking of halfway interesting things to blog about, so it's nice to know that someone still likes my blog!

Requirements for accepting this award are that I must list five of my favorite addictions and then pass along the award to five other fabulous blogs.

My five addictions are:
1. Reading blogs! I love reading every one's thoughts and seeing the wonderful crafty ideas out there.
2. Pop. It's sad, but I currently have a horrible caffeine addiction. I've had a lot of headaches lately and I'm sure it's due to my pop addiction.
3. Ghost Whisperer. It is the only show I make sure to watch each week.
4. Doing crafty little projects. I start feeling antsy if it's been too long since I last did a project.
5. Hobby Lobby. It's a good thing the nearest one is 50 miles away or I'd spend waaayyyy too much time and money in there. LOVE that store!!
Now for the blogs I am addicted to :
Chris @ Just a Girl
*****
I'm off shopping in Sioux Falls with my husband today. We are hoping to get most of our Christmas shopping done today. AND we'll be stopping at Hobby Lobby!! :o)

My Husband Rocks!

David and I work opposite shifts so we don't spend much time together other than on the weekend. We kind of say "hi" and "I love you" in passing and that's about it for the week. But, David makes sure to call whenever he can while he's working. We only talk for a few minutes at a time, but it does help us stay connected.
To learn more about My Husband Rocks, check out Katy Lin at the great adventure.

Do You Ever.....

Do you ever read a post with lots of pictures and start to get lost because the blogger wrote about each picture underneath it? I do, then I have to scroll back up to the top and start all over. Maybe it's just me but I think it makes more sense to write about a picture then post the picture underneath. It just makes more sense in my brain to read about it then see it I guess. Just personal style and preference I know. What's your preference?

Weekend Recap

I did a little shopping in town this weekend. Actually I did a lot more browsing than shopping, but I did get a few Christmas gifts purchased.

I also worked on a few crafty projects over the weekend. For my first project I took this picture frame and glued the glass into the frame with my smelly E600 glue.

I used one of my UpperCase Living sayings and turned it into this:

Now I just need to get some family pictures up.
.
I also took this board I've had for quite awhile and sanded it down.

Now it looks like this:

My favorite project of the weekend was my "Christmas L". This summer Joy from Joys of Home came up with this project. I made my own and it now sits in our TV stand. I decided to make a Christmas L to hang outside our door this holiday season. As Pioneer Woman would say, here's the cast of characters:Mod Podge, scrapbook paper, ribbon, paint brushes, paint, glitter, newspaper, an L, and a blank board. I think the instructions are in Joy's post if you need them, or are interested. The only thing to add to those instructions is to paint your letter the same color as the glitter you are using.
.
The result:
I think I'm going to change the ribbon to a wider ribbon, but otherwise I really like it! I used the Martha Stewart glitter, it's so sparkly! I love that stuff. Now I'm trying to figure out what else I can glitter up.

Hope you all have a great week!

My Husband Rocks!

My husband has listened to me ramble about the books and now he's going with me next week to see this:

He has no interest in the movie at all but he's going anyway. Just another little reason I love him so much.
Did you know they are already planning the movie sequels??? So excited!!!

I Can Do That (I think)

I finished another Christmas present, but I can't show it because it's for someone who reads my blog. I'll show ya all my homemade Christmas gifts sometime after Christmas. How are you doing on your Christmas shopping/crafting?

I've had the Christmas itch for quite awhile now, and it's getting worse. I'm so ready to decorate. I almost changed my blog layout last night to a Christmas themed one. I'll try to wait till a little closer to Thanksgiving at least, but I'm not making any promises.

I would really like to start some Christmas crafts but I haven't come up with any ideas. I looked at Martha, Country Living, and Better Homes and Gardens tonight for some inspiration. I found a couple ornament ideas at BHG that I am planning to try this weekend.

I'm going to try this one, but I am planning to use drapery trim and fringe instead of the felt.

I thought this one was pretty too. Not sure if I'll get any done this weekend though since our "fabric store" is Walmart. I'll see what I can find.

.
PS- Thank you to my husband, who not only cleaned today, but also had lots of burning candles waiting for me when I got home tonight. And thank you, thank you for cleaning your side of the bed today. Now I don't have to worry about you breaking your neck when you get out of bed tomorrow :o)

Goodies

The items from my UpperCase Living party arrived over the weekend. I ended up getting $50 in free products so I was pretty excited! Here is my FREE hostess gift along with a 12x12 tile I bought at Lowe's for under $2.
And here's the finished product:

Remember my Goodwill mirrors from this summer?

I got a fleur de lis as one of my free products from UCL as well and put on one of the mirrors.
Not a huge difference, just a little somethin' somethin' to make it more interesting to look at. I haven't done anything with my other UCL products yet, but I'll be sure to post them once I do.

I worked on a gift for my Pink Christmas girlfriend this weekend. At least one of the gifts needs to be homemade so I decided to hand embroider an M and frame it.
The red is prettier in person than it looks here. It took me a long time as this is only the 3rd item I've hand embroidered. I had a hard time with the curves and had to rip out a lot of stitches. But, it's done and I hope she likes it. I have one other small project I'm working on for her and I'll show it once I'm done.
44 days till Christmas :o)

Weekend Recap

We had a pretty low key weekend. David and I did a little shopping on Saturday for our Project Joy child. Later we went to get gas and were happy to see the prices had dropped to under $2.00 per gallon.

We hung out at home Saturday night. I worked on a couple Christmas gifts. I finished one and got a good start on another.

I met my grandma, mom, aunt, and cousin in Huron for lunch on Sunday. My grandma's 81st birthday is today so we took her for lunch out to celebrate.

Are any of you making Christmas gifts this year? If so, I'd love to hear what projects you're working on!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

We woke up to this yesterday morning.
Our area received a little over 5 inches, while other parts of the state received over 40 inches of snow. Glad we missed out on that!
This weather makes me want to get out my Christmas decorations in the worst way! I'm waiting until the Saturday after Thanksgiving though - it's tradition. I always pull out all my decorations the Saturday after Thanksgiving, put in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and get to decorating. I usually listen to that movie and The Santa Clause 1 & 2 while decorating.

My Husband Rocks!

If I ever saw a picture that made me think of David, this would be it.

Actually, he took the picture last winter while playing around with the camera. That's his guitar and his Irish hat (I don't know what they're really called.)

One of the reasons I love my husband is for his musical talent. He's a great guitar player and I am lucky enough to get to listen to him play on (almost) a daily basis.

When we were dating we would talk every night on the phone before we'd go to bed. He'd play around on his guitar while we were talking. This is the song he'd play most often. Something about it tore at my heart, and at that time I didn't even know the lyrics.

We had that song played at our wedding.

David's musical talent is just one more reason why he rocks :o)

Winter is on it's way...

source
Well this is the weather outlook for my state & surrounding areas today and tomorrow. We don't have any snow in my area yet, but it's on it's way. Guess I'll get my running around done today so I can "enjoy" the snow tomorrow. I'm off to buy bread because toast is the only thing I can eat....still battling with my stomach. Good times. And I'll have to make a Goodwill stop in hopes of finding a project. Hope you all have a great day!

Vote

Ok, I had a long rant all typed out and I just deleted it. This is all I have to say:
PLEASE do your research before you vote. Don't rely on the commercials, etc. for your information. There seems to be a lot of misinformed people out there. Very sad. I'm definitely not saying that I know it all, because I don't. But some "facts" are very easily proven false if you just do some research.
.
Get out and vote tomorrow.
.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Sick and Tired

Just a quick post to let ya all know I haven't disappeared. I'm at home sick today getting over some sort of stomach bug. Not really surprised that I got it since since a lot of kids were either out or went home early on Friday with stomach issues.

I haven't posted in a few days and I still really don't have anything exciting to show or share. :o( I'm hoping to do some projects on Thursday and Friday since we don't have school.

Hope you all had a great Monday.
