Since I've been gone....

Well, my blog sat quiet for 4 months.  While I was away, here are some notable things that happened:

• Dave and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary.
• I walked a 5k with my niece, Sarah.  Pretty sure she was mentally brushing up on her CPR skills as I huffed and puffed my way through.
• After walking the 5k, I decided I'd like to try to run one.  I've been using this couch to 5K app on my iPhone and I love it!  I have to admit though, I haven't been out at all this week.  I had some serious school burn-out {due to co-workers, not my students} and I'm just taking the rest of this week to relax.  I'm sure I'm going to regret that decision next week.

My current mantras to go along with the Couch to 5K training:

• We got a new car.

• And this one might be the best one of all -  I started watching Duck Dynasty.  Oh my Lord, if you haven't watched this one yet you need to! Hilarious!!

• On Sunday, I celebrated my 32^nd birthday.  I had a great day spending time with my mom & dad, my brother, my friend Tasha, and my husband.
• Yesterday was the last day of school for the staff. 

I’m sure there were other things that happened, but since I didn’t blog about them, I can’t remember anything else. ;o)

Woo hoo it's August!  Finally!  :o)

Ok, I fully admit I watch a lot of stupid TV.  This show probably wins the award for the stupidest though.  What can I say?  Its stupidity sucked me in.

• heading to Yankton to watch my husband run in a 5k and do some shopping at the arts/crafts show (in the air conditioned mall...so much better than outside!)
• attending my cousin's wedding
• school starting!  I'm a little nervous because I have to teach a class this year that I've never taught before {language arts}...could be interesting!  :/
• getting a little closer to fall!!  Fall makes me happy  :o)

Oprah's Final Show

So I watched the last Oprah show yesterday.  I've never really been a loyal fan.  Some weeks I might have watched 3 or 4 shows and some weeks I might not have watched any.  But, I did make sure to sit down yesterday.  I was glad I did.  I liked the simplicity of it and appreciated a lot of the advice she offered. 

Some of my favorite lines from the show:

Don't wait for someone else to complete you. 'Jerry Maguire' was just a movie.


People want to know 'Do you see me, do you hear me? Does what I say mean anything to you?' Try it with your children, your husband, your boss -- validate them. 'I see you. I hear you. And what you say matters to me.

My hope is you will be a safe harbor for somebody else. Connect, embrace, liberate, love just one person. Then spread that to two and see what a difference that makes.

A calling lights you up and lets you know you're exactly where you're supposed to be doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing. Live from the heart of yourself. You have to know what sparks the light in you so you in your own way can illuminate the world.  You have the power to change somebody's life.

There is a difference between thinking you deserve to be happy and knowing you are worthy of happiness. We often block our own blessings because we don't feel smart or pretty or worthy enough. The show's taught me you're worthy because you're born and you're here. You alone are enough.

I'm so ready for the fall TV season to get started! I'm tired of reruns and I miss my Ghost Whisperer and The Biggest Loser. There are a couple new shows that I'm excited to see too. Hopefully they don't get cancelled if they're good. I hate when you just get into a show and they cancel it.

Glee--FOX--Starts on the 9th.

Ok, they had me hooked when they used Somebody to Love Me by Queen in the commercial. LOVE that song!

The Good Wife--CBS--Starts on the 22nd.

Ohh, love that slap.

The Vampire Diaries--CW--Starts on the 10th.

So Twilight-esque. I guess The Vampire Diaries is based on a series of novels written by L.J. Smith. The series was originally a trilogy published in 1991. Interesting.
