Sign How-To

I've had a few questions in my comments and a couple emails asking me questions about the sign I painted. I thought I'd just type up a quick post in case anyone else runs across my last post and wants more information.

The first thing I did was sand and paint my board. I then went into Word to type up my letters. I used the font Bookman Old Style for the big letters, and Liorah BT for Est. 2008. After I printed my letters out, I cut and taped the last name together. I then colored the back of the paper with chalk. Next I tried to center the name as best I could without actually measuring and taped it onto the board. Once taped, I traced the outline of each letter with a regular pen. I took off the paper, checked my lines, and started painting.

Once the paint was dry, I did the same process with Est. and 2008. These letters were much smaller so I had to cut about half of the bristles off one of my small paint brushes to make it work.
And that is how I made my sign. I hope this was semi-understandable.

See how creative you are! I love your idea of the plexiglass top for Yaya's train table. It would be awesome to slide her little craft projects underneath for added protection and color too! You are toooooo smart lady!

Oh this is so cute Nicole! Thanks for sharing how you made this...I also liked the canvas painting too. I think I will put this on my list to try and do.

Thanks again, Nichole for the neat idea!! I thought I understood the directions but thanks for the clarification on the est and 2008.

Only if I was that creative but if I can muster up the courage, I might actually give this one a try!!

The sign looks great. May be time consuming but looks simple and very creative.

Thanks for responding to my comment but also for posting the tutorial! I've been trying to make stencils and trace those to make my wood signs but this looks much, much easier! Thanks!!
